Forney P&Z Denies New Housing Developments

On Thursday evening ((12/06)) Forney’s Planning & Zoning commission held (2) public hearings as described below.

Public Hearing Items

  1. Hold a public hearing and discuss and consider approval of a request to zone property from Agricultural District to Planned Development District with single-family residential base zoning. The property consists of approximately 348.82 acres of land located south of Forney High School, on the south, east, and west sides of F.M. 741. This request includes 102.8 acres of land in Forney ETJ.
  2. Hold a public hearing and discuss and consider approval of a request to zone property to Planned Development District with single-family residential base zoning. The property consists of approximately 124.716 acres of land located north of High Country Lane and southwest of the Lakewood Trails subdivision in the City of Forney ETJ.

Mr Pat Atkins representing Saddle Star Land Development,L.L.C. requested to rezone (345.65)-acres from A ((Agriculture)) to PD SF-6 so it can be developed as a (1278) lot single-family residential subdivision with 48 acres of open space. The proposed subdivision will be known as the Whaley Farms. Whaley Farms will be located on the west and east side and adjacent to F.M. 741.

Atkins presented a second request to rezone from A ((Agriculture)) to PD SF-6 (124.72) acres to be developed as a (442) lot single-family residential subdivision with 6.2 acres of open space. The proposed subdivision will be known as the Costello Farms. Costello Farms will be located on the west side and adjacent to High Country Lane.

Upon hearing Atkins proposals, the P&Z commissioners voiced their concerns with road congestion, infrastructure issues, and the impact to FISD that these developments would create.

Together these developments would add (1720) new homes to the area.

The P&Z commissioners voted unanimously to deny both of these requests.
